Peer Review Process – ITEA Journal of Test and Evaluation

Peer Review Policy

The ITEA Journal is an industry-leading publication committed to advancing rigorous and evidence-based discourse in the field of Test and Evaluation, particularly its innovative and leading-edge technological progress. The journal operates under a formal peer review process consistent with scholarly standards observed by professional bodies and international academic institutions.

Peer Review Overview

All research articles submitted to the ITEA Journal are subject to open peer review by independent experts in the field. This ensures impartiality and objectivity in manuscript evaluation.

The peer review process is designed to be consistent with principles endorsed by the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research, and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), ensuring scholarly integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Peer Review Process

  1. Initial Editorial Assessment
Manuscripts are first assessed by the Chief Editor to ensure they align with the journal’s scope and meet submission standards.
  2. Open Peer Review
The ITEA Journal uses an open peer review model. In this process:

    • Reviewers are external[1] experts or anonymously chosen by the Chief Editor, selected for their subject-matter knowledge.
    • Both the authors and reviewers are aware of each other’s identity (unless anonymously selected as above)
    • This model promotes transparency, encourages constructive dialogue, and reflects the collaborative nature of Test and Evaluation research.
  3. Review Criteria
    Reviewers evaluate submissions based on:

    • Value of contribution to the field of Test and Evaluation
    • Analytical quality and methodology
    • Clarity of presentation
    • Theoretical and practical relevance to the test domain
  4. Reviewer Recommendations
Reviewers provide written feedback and recommend:

    • Acceptance into the journal for a particular edition
    • Minor or major revisions prior to acceptance for publishing
    • Rejection based on the topic of the paper diverging or showing no traceability to the area of Test and Evaluation or its associated domains
  5. Editorial Decision
The final decision is made by the Chief Editor based on the reviewer reports and the editor’s own judgment.
  6. Revisions
Authors may be invited to revise and resubmit their manuscript in response to reviewer feedback. Revisions may be re-reviewed to ensure concerns are fully addressed.

Identification of Peer-Reviewed Articles

All articles that have undergone this process will be clearly labelled as “Peer Reviewed” on the journal website and in the article metadata. Content such as editorials or opinion pieces that are not peer reviewed will be labelled accordingly.

Timeframes

The journal does not guarantee acceptance or expedited publication. The typical review timeframe is 6–12 weeks, though this may vary based on reviewer availability and the revision cycle.

Ethical Guidelines

The ITEA Journal adheres to the principles outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows best practices in academic peer review. Reviewers and authors are expected to:

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest
  • Maintain respectful and professional communication
  • Uphold professional and ethical standards
